Juleianna, of Petali, and I have challenged each other to create a weekly floral arrangement using local blooms found in Southern Oregon. This was our first week and the perfect week to begin. Trees are covered with spring blooms, bulbs are out and with each day there are more blooms to draw inspiration from.
Yesterday I set out on the town gathering blooming branches from fallen limbs, greens from the sparse landscape at my rental and daffodils and hellebores from a local nursery. I scored an inexpensive glass vase from The Grange, created my design and roped Dane Corry into traveling around town and photographing it on every street corner and back alley that caught our interest.
This was Danes first attempt at photographing flowers; he experimented with several lenses, the fisheye lens was one of his favorites, and worked with the disappearing light of a stormy day. We quickly hustled around town from corner to corner with Roo, our sweet and patient puppy. Hurrying to catch light and then patiently waiting for it to return from behind a cloud. The hustle and the wind lead to rearranging of the flowers as necessary. We got carried away and took hundreds of photos, I tried to narrow them down…
You can find Juleianna and her designs on instagram @petalifloral and on her website http://www.petalifloral.wordpress.com. I’m looking forward to getting creative and experimenting more next week, this was fun!
